Michelle Shin, LMFT (#128928)
Hi, my name is Michelle. I am a dedicated therapist who brings a unique perspective to my practice as a Korean-American who immigrated to the United States at age 9. As a Third Culture Kid who was raised in multiple countries, I deeply understand the complexities of balancing cultural identities and the journey of self-discovery that often accompanies such experiences. This personal insight fuels my passion for helping others navigate their own paths to healing and growth.
Prior to starting my own practice, I worked in various settings such as School-based sites, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) contracted agency, and a group practice to grow and expand my clinical skills. In my practice, I specialize in supporting individuals and families through challenges related to cultural identity, adjustment, and emotional well-being. My approach is deeply rooted in empathy and appreciation for the diverse experiences that shape each person’s journey. I strive to create a warm and inclusive space where clients feel understood and empowered to explore their personal challenges and strengths. I utilize components and tools from various Evidence-based treatments. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to help process traumatic experiences. Furthermore, I am trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) with emphasis on Interpersonal Neurobiology as well as Perinatal Mental Health to become a PMH-C.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy exploring local coffee shops, spending quality time with my husband and two daughters, and traveling to new places. These activities not only bring me joy but also inspire a broader perspective that enriches my work with clients.
Whether you are seeking support for personal growth, navigating cultural challenges, or simply looking for someone to understand and guide you, I am here to help. Let's work together to find clarity, strength, and healing.
